The Motorcle Restoration Company is the UK distributor of the Alton System's 12 volt A.-C. generators, designed to replace the 3" dynamos of British classic motorcycles

Alton generators are 12 volt A.-C. generators, designed to replace the 3" dynamos of British classic motorcycles.
They provide 150 watts at their maximum. More important is that they provide 85 - 90 watts at moderate cruising speeds. That allows riders to use good lights on and coil ignition system and at the same time to maintain a good battery charge. The range of performances is the result of high mileage road tests and years of experience of riding British classic motorcycles. Our generators are based on permanent magnet brushless technology. No maintenance required, no adjustment needed.
The generators have the same main dimensions as the original dynamos. They keep a close to genuine appearance of the classic motorcycles. There is no major alteration required to fit an Alton on a motorcycle. The weight of one unit is approx. 1300 gr (+ separate rectifier-regulator 220 gr). This is very much lighter than the original dynamo.
There are 7 models of 3" diameter A.-C. generators. The designs of models bear some slight differences to match different driving systems or fitting parts of British motorcycles.
The rectifier-regulators come from genuine electrical equipment of small capacity motorcycles. They are reliable industrial products.
Our rectifier-regulators are designed for negative earthed wiring in opposition to the positive earthed standard of the British classic motorcycles. That means that in the case of a positive earthed system, it is necessary to change for negative earthed wiring. This is very simple to do. We provide typical wiring diagrams.
